A historical perspective on hashtags prominent during the 2016 American presidential election season.


I thought of walls built at different epochs and by different people to keep other people out. I thought of the labor involved in the effort of border closures, and the eventual futility of such pursuits.


To place these walls in proper historical and geographical contexts, I chose images that show the walls at different stages of disintegration as well as of spatial and temporal distance (ruins of a wall, or a wall captured from space, and decades or centuries after the beginning of construction). 


The layout resembles a simple grid notebook, as if someone created a lesson plan in an imaginary history book.
