PANGEA | YBCA | ARTE ÚTIL
Pangea was the last supercontinent when all land on earth was one. As part of a fellowship with the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) and Arte Útil, I worked with a group of artists to reimagine this type of borderless unity in a modern context.
We came up with an app-based social network called Pangea that would encourage people to think of love more broadly and to subvert national borders through marriage-based immigration.
In addition to concept development, I designed an animated GIF logo for the project. I fit the continents to the shape of a heart; the visual metaphor of a heart pulling the world’s continents together is understood across different people and cultures. The animation allowed me to convey a sense of a unified world being lit by a beating heart.
Contribution: visual concept development, illustration, & animation.

The Pangea network idea was developed in collaboration with Jear Keokham, Suzanne Russell, and Jackie Katz.
