COVID Times FAQs

Are you supporting birth during the pandemic?

Yes. I do most prenatal meetings virtually (with one in-person prenatal meeting to go over physical support measures and positions). During active labor, I offer full in-person support at home, at a birth center, and when allowed at a hospital. The postpartum meeting is usually in-person.

Are you vaccinated?

Yes, and boosted.

Do you work with unvaccinated clients?

I do not (though I'd make an exception if someone had that very rare medical reason of having had anaphylaxis in response to both polyethylene glycol and polysorbate in the past, and thus couldn't have any of the available vaccines).

If I decide to birth at a hospital and bring my partner as my sole support person (if only one person is allowed), what kind of preparation and support will you be able to offer?

It's very unlikely that Bay Area hospitals will go back to restricting support people to just one, but what I have done in such cases earlier in the pandemic was to offer additional prenatal meetings focusing on deeper support and advocacy, a kind of crash course on how to be a doula :) Additionally, I have provided in-person support at home, and then virtual support (zoom, facetime, phone) when my clients transfered to the hospital.

I plan to birth at a hospital. Would you come with me as my sole support person on the off chance that only one person is allowed when I give birth?

Yes.

Are your back-up doulas available to support me in-person if need be?

Several of my favorite doulas are available for in-person support, as long as everyone is vaccinated and takes appropriate COVID precautions.

It is possible to have a peaceful and powerful birth even during a pandemic :) Stay safe, well-informed, and supported. Good luck!
